14. ... Qf6 is a surprise. I don't like it.

15.Qg3 doesn't achieve anything now. Black castles and has no problems anymore.

15.Rxe7 looks inviting and would be my choice. Black has to choose between
- 16. ... Kd7 17.Bc3 c5 (Nf5? then 18.Bb4 is very promising) dxc+ e.p. and white is clearly in the lead
- or 16. ... Kd6 17.Bb4 c5 (Kd7 then 18.Bc3 and back to the previous line) 18.dxc+ e.p. and white is better

15.Re4 is a good alternative (Nf5 then 16.QxQ gxQ 17.Bb4 with advantage for white)

Is this move the surprise we have waited for?

All that debate over what white would play after c5 and we don't even get c5!

Qf6 looks fine to me. I don't immediately see a good move for white. The rook sac reeks of desperation.

Re4 looks interesting. Attacks the Knight and defends g4

OK, maybe you're right. Maybe Qf6 doesn't look that strong.

See above. I only forgot a part of the line : 15. ... Kxe7 16.Qe3+.

Here is the corrected version:
15.Rxe7 Kxe7 16.Qe3+ and now:
- 16. ... Kd7 17.Bc3 c5 (Nf5? then 18.Bb4 is very promising) dxc+ e.p. and white is clearly in the lead
- or 16. ... Kd6 17.Bb4 c5 (Kd7 then 18.Bc3 and back to the previous line) 18.dxc+ e.p. and white is better

Promising for Black!!

...Nf5
Bb4?? NxQ(e3)+

Sorry Mephisto, you did that to me earlier.

Actually Nf5 looks like the only move if we get to this position.

Re4 looks best.

Based on the comments from Fabian, I think we'll see Rxe7+. Time for the fireworks.

That was a typo.
16.... Kd7 17.Bc3 Nf5? 18.Bb5+ (not Bb4) looks very promising. Probably winning. Looks like 18. ... c5 would be the better move, no?

I figured it was a typo. c5 is better, but after dxc+, black is still in a world of hurt, no?

The more I look at the position, the more I agree with you that Qf6??? was a major mistake.

Rxe7+ is devastating.

If White plays Rxe7 it will be over soon and we can finally learn the participants.

I'm thinking it's two early chess computers without an opening book or with the opening book turned off.

We discussed this. 15. ... Kxe7 has to be the next move.

If instead 15. ... Qxe7 then 16.Qxd4 0-0 17.Bd3 (to prevent Bf5 and have a safer king) and 18.Nc3 may follow, giving white two pieces for the rook, and a still very annoying (for black) d-pawn. Has to win.

Qxe7 is blacks only chance to survive.

I think he'll play Kxe7 followed by Qe3+, Kd7, Bc3 and black is in even more trouble.
