I wonder if anyone here has expiriences with taking online chess lessons.
At the moment I am taking lessons from Jorquerino, using the playchess.com server.
I have the idea that there is a moment when we see that studying on your own is not enough to lift your level of chess. That made me search for a personal coach. So he can help me discover what my weak points are and how to work on them. Until now I'm very happy with the lessons.

I would be very interested to know if he helps you much as I believe that I have reached a stage where I am not improving. Although saying that Ragonak posted a thread B+K+Kn v K mating tutorial which made me realize that I have not been studying enough on my own, due to a severe bout of laziness (lasting several years)

Well stevetodd, I must say that... yes I think it helps me improve my game. I get lessons once a week. Lessons last between 1 hour and 1 and a half hour. On the first lesson we analized two of my on the boad games, so he could get a good idea about my level of play and tell me what he saw as my weak points. After that we made a plan. That was, in my case, lessons from him on possitional concepts and working on my own on tactics doing exercises with a cd-rom he recomended.

Of course the amount of improvement is determinated by the amount of effort that you put on studying chess. Without working hard on your chess, there will be little improvement even if you hire Kasparov to teach you.

Online lessons, huh?

I know one place, but it's not so much lessons, as online instruction.

www.freechessd.org

They have lectures on various games, openings, endgames, etc. I always found them semi-useful. Oh, and it is free one you sign up with the website... which is also free.
