Well I was wondering if its a good idea to be able to play e4 and d4. I only play d4 just now but am going to start playing e4 aswell. It lets you play both sides of openings and obviously get more knowledge. what you think?

I'm a patzer myself, so you may wish to discount everything I say.

I will play 1.e4 exclusively for months on end, then 1.d4 for months more. I've also played 1.c4 as my first choice for a period of several years, and I often play 1.Nf3.

Lots of folks claim that you need a solid repertoire, playing openings that you understand well. I prefer a diversified and ever changing repertoire.

In other words, I suspect your approach is wise.

one of the nice things about correspondence chess is that it allows you to play several games at once and practice differernt openings.

Yes, I believe I'm pretty good. Mind you, I've been playing for donkey's years.

Youre good but, "never will," I think Weyerstrass could change your thinking.

iam also a d4 player now....
and still hunger to learn new openings for d4 and e4.
am tired playing using e4 the kings gambit...
i think its better to you to master first a d4 opening before you start learning new opening for e4...
always study new opening to be a better player but make it slowly to more effectve learner.....
just play it heartedly and enjoy while learning....🙂
