The Slav Defense (1 d4 d5 2 c4 c6) is an excellent defense that I have been using off and on for over twenty years.

At master level and above the Exchange Variation (3 cd cd) has a reputation for Black having no better prospects than drawish equality if White is in a peaceful mood.

In livlier defenses like the Tchigorin Defense (1 d4 d5 2 c4 Nc6) it is harder for White to steer toward calmer waters.

Fischer never wrote a book on the KG, he wrote an article on it with not too much analysis.

He claimed 3...d6 busted it - he was wrong.

I've read it. I learned Descriptive Notation to read it - but I forget most of DN now.

It's interesting to note Fisher played 1...e5 in this game - I've heard to see if Spassky would dare to play the KG against Fischer.
