I had not been in the PlayChess engineroom for a while, and pitted my single processor Fritz 10 against an overclocked Quad-Core and against Deep Fritz on an Athlon X2 Dual Core. Are people taking chess way too seriously? A 64bit Quad Core overclocked could void the warranty if you overclock it.

The price for those processors particularly in ripoff Britain is quite high, even when Intel or AMD drop prices it takes a while for the price-drop to reach the guy on the street. Here are the games.

If you have powerful hardware you can go for the big money in the Freestyle which allows any combinations of humans/computers/engines. Otherwise its just to break boredom when recuperating from being hammered in blitz or watching the games in the broadcasting room.

Have you been at a booze-up/meet-up lately? You can always tell Sicilian Smaug from the photos and posting air in the forums. (Not to mention a crazy avatar).

I test my opening book in the engine room, and explore lines that I then play OTB. It's one of many ways to pursue greater understanding of the game. I find victories by my antiquated hardware particularly gratifying, especially when I've tweaked my book for a particularly powerful opponent.

What is your nick on the server? I know falco plays there sometimes as he has a powerful machine.

I wish. I only have an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.21GHz 32-bit single. I haven't been in the engine room for a while and I'll probably go back and try engine/slow. I heard the competition has gotten tougher.

just people who are passionate about what they do. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, I'm considering it once I build my computer from scratch. People who have interests in both computers and chess will find it fun.

How do you get to colour the book blue like the Fritz book? I know green stands for play and red for no-no, but how do you put blue? My atttempts to make my own book were not too good, I was hammered severely last night.
