This is harder for black than I thought it would be. No one played 1. h4! (thank goodness!) as 1. ... g5?? 2. hXg is dreadful for black and I blitzed all 5 games last night. Now I don't like any of the positions.

Against anyone rated above 1600 I would already be dead.

I must do more research before the next round of 1. ... g5 but if its good enough for Basman its good enough for me.

I could have made it even easier. I had intended 27. Qb2 before 28. BXN but, in my rush, played them the wrong way round adding a few unnecessary moves to the game.

So 2/5 so far with 3 to go.

Edit: For those that may say I am giving newbies the wrong idea (z00t for example) may I just say that I do not consider 1. ... g5 a serious response that anyone should have in their repetoire. It is played for fun only!

Obviously you are going to win against players rated a few hundred points below you whatever way you respond to the first move.

I wouldn't think that the Borg would hold it's ground against players of equal rating as yourself.

Several years ago I played a tournament game against IM Rashid Ziatdinov. He played 1 e4, and I played---1...g5

He tore me up. After the game, he told me that an A player like me should know better than to play like that in the opening!
