The other is bird morphy. The sacrifice is very deep.

Kasparov's rook sacrifice 24.Rxd4!! in Kasparov-Topalov 1999 was the first "famous" move I was shown when I started taking an interest in chess and it still boggles my mind. Topalov resigned some 20 moves later.

Great thread btw; a lot of nice moves/games here. I love the Kaissa rook sac 🙂

    OK Already.

Here is a move that was actually played.

One of the best trap ever set on the chessboard - therefore one
    of my favourites.

Craddock-Mieses, London (1939 or 1951 - depends on what source you look at)

The beauty being is that White had to be a reasonable player to fall for it.

    Black to play.

Mieses nudged the a8 Rook to b8 with his pinkie.

White looked 4 moves ahead. Mieses had seen ahead 9 moves.

I love the move 8...Bc5 clearing the b-file

Probably not famous but I think Taimanov deserves a spot in this thread.

    Taimanov-Listsin 1949.
Try to guess and work out white's 24th move.

    toet.

Cool, didn't realise computer chess was that strong in 1977. 🙂

I know I posted this game a few months back, but it's one of my favorites, and it is consistent with the informal "queen sac" theme:
