i've started to play the english again and one of my games went something like this
[fen]rn2kbnr/pppq1ppp/3p4/4p3/8/5NPb/PPPPPPBP/RNBQ1RK1 w kq - 0 1[/fen]
For eg. I don't see how black can get away with that plan so easily:
1.c4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.g3 Be6 4.Bg2 Qd7(if...Bxc4, Qa4ch) 5.Ng5 black's bishop and b7 are attacked.
Originally posted by trevor33The normal way to prevent the exchange of bishops is to make sure you get your rook to e1 before he can play Bh3. If he still plays Bh3, your bishop then has the h1 square.
which was pretty annoying so i thought about trying this to prevent my light bishop from attack
[fen]rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/6P1/PPPPPPBP/RNBQ1RNK w kq - 0 1[/fen]
what do you guys think about this defence?
Of course, that's if you even deem it necessary to stop this plan. Remember, your opponenet is the one that's moving a piece 3 times to trade it off for a piece that has moved once (When he plays Bh3, you wouldn't take; you'd wait for him to take on g2), so the burden is on him to prove that the weakened f3 and h3 squares are worth the time he's lost.

very bad idea. just wasting tempos and undeveloping your knight...
How many moves does something like that take to set up??
Francettoing (sp??) and castling are pretty good moves....
but after that YOU ARE WASTING at least 2 MOVES!! - against a skilled player, those extra 2 moves will turn into and attack and that attack may end up losing material or worse, mate...
in the example below, those 2 moves lost me a rook, for a knight
But nonetheless, there is nothing like trying it for yourself is there??

*Thats not my actual rating - but it is relative to the computer strength....
so 1900 vs. 1700 (200 diff)
I did end up winning the game becuase the computer is a bit retarded (and with luck on my side)
but...who got the better of the opening?? - if the computer was stronger, I would not have been able to make the comeback I did....
it was 9 moves before i was in trouble....
Therefore, I pressume, if you played that setup against me, or any player my strength or stronger, it won't be long before you get in a tricky situation....
