Richest opening

Which opening do you believe provides the richest gameplay for both sides? meaning that the position is deep in both tactical and positional play with piece activity and excitement.

For me, I'd have to say the ruy lopez, berlin defence.

Two-knights Traxler variation is most fun for both I think.

I like the Traxler, Benko and Kings gambit

Ruy Lopez and Sicilian.

I don't think the traxler is too rich in positional play.

Sicilian definately

So Sicillian or Lopez seem to be the most popular responses. They are definitly very deep indeed.

Another interesting candidate is the QG, although I play the nimzo-indian or benoni defence against 1.d4 so I'm not as versed in it.

Seems a bit like an unanswerable question, but I think many openings qualify for that title. Some I would include: Ruy Lopez, French, Najdorf/Dragon (only for e4)

I'm trying the Modern Benoni & that has quite a lot of scope for piece activity for both.
