The Frankenstein Dracula Variation (so named by Tim Harding.) exists.

Alnwick 1979 I entered a Saturday 30 minute Allegro and took the wife
with me to make it weekend holiday.

1st round lost to ex British Champion Brian Eley. (Sicilian me as White - Morra Gambit.)
2nd Round I lost as Black in this variation.
3rd Round I lost as White in this variation.
So after 3 rounds I had castled queenside. 0-0-0.

4th Round and no more Frankenstein Dracula's I swindled a draw that made
it's way into 'Mastering Chess' (Hey a plug!)

I am Black.

5th round I won and never took Mrs Greenpawn with me again to a tournament.

The Frankenstein Dracula Variation.

these tactics and variations are excellent, we can understand them, but many grandmaster games that are played now are just so sophisticated that the average grandpatzer could study them for a thousand years and be none the wiser. Steintz da man! damn those hypermoderns!

I think Dracula (black?) has the best chances in that line - thanks GP! 🙂

Will try and find more, there's a few early queen traps

Hi Robbie,

If they would stop these closed shop tournaments open only to players
above a certain grade (so their grades keep rising...) then the elite
would have to drop back into the bottom feeders pool to earn a crust
and we would see some smashing, instrucitive and understandable games
because these top guys can really let fly when given half a chance.

Yoiu may have a point dear GB, you know I was following a game the other day, Carlsen v Kamsky, it was posted on youtube by STL Chess club and it was incomprehensible, not only to me, but to Yasser Seirawan and Jennifer Shahade who were commentating on the game, GM chess is now practically useless to study, its too sophisticated for amateurs, they don't play like humans, they play like machines.

This is a queen trap of my own invention 🙂

2. Qh5 is pesky, its not a bad move and needs to be defended against.

The line never works though 🙁 this what that I find, but I still play it to put white on the back foot...

Hi Chris

"This is a queen trap of my own invention."

Infact it has been seen three times on here.

1) 0-1 after 4...Bg4 (that was in 2007)
2) Black missed playing 4...Bg4 and went onto lose.
3) White tried to wriggle out of it with 5.Bxf7+ but failed and it turned into a rout.

This will plug a hole in the next Blog. Thank you.

I empathize with you completely. Every year I take my wife and two girls with me to the Florida State Championship, which is usually at a nice hotel on the beach somewhere.

Each year my rating takes a sever whipping while I am there, and it takes all winter for me to make it up.

Which I donate again next year...

There is I think a queen trap where whites queen is on d4, blacks on f6 and a black knight on e5 which discovers an attack.... ? also any how to loose quick in the kings gambit examples?

You are talking about a trap in the Three Knights.

White to play. In Game 9130642 we see White playing 7.Nd5 here
and losing his Queen to 7....Nf3+.

Yes! that's the one!

not so easy but here's a trap in the Sicilian - played in 1842!

[White "John Cochrane"]
[Black "Howard Staunton"]

It is surprising how often white falls into this line.

And a miniature

I'm not sure if this fits into this thread but It is very instuctive tactically.

cool misterchess like a reversed fried liver the first one. 🙂

The Jerome Gambit (possibly the worst opening in chess?)

The 'trap' is blacks king being moved into the open, e6, white can win back a piece and call check a few times before totally loosing...
