I think that's an opening, my computer does that now and then, rubbish when it does.
that's similar to the caro kann advance variation.

yes, and attacking the bishop is part of blacks plan if it goes correctly. I like playing 4.Bd3 rather then pushing my pawns.

That opening is an Advanced Caro Kann (by transposition).
1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 Bf5

Perhaps your computer cannot recognise it or the book is switched off.

Two games on RhP have gone with your Nc3 and Bb4 on here.
In both cases Black lost the Bishop but went onto win!

Game 6271583 The Fluffer - Jovan Capablanca.

and

Game 1847996 Torchwood - skippern

The known trap with 4.h4 (instead of 4.Nc3) has been played loads
of times and picked up 20+ scalps.

The name player of the Black pieces who lost a Bishop to this trap in Game 1906176 is qute funny.

Even Swiss G. has scored a point with trap.
(EDIT: just seen your post S.G. know wonder you know this trap.) 🙂

SwissGambit - afcacbs RHP 2010

I would think trading the bad B for white's good one is much more in accordance with Black's plans.

Not that we should kowtow to our opponent's plans in the openings. Usually the best book lines are the best book lines because each side gets at least some of the things they want.

Some quality(?) games. quite funny. I don't know the line but I have a prog with h4 and black playing h5 in return stopping the trap...

this is the Saitek Master on its 'turkey' setting

up to 1 min per move it still can't see 5...Bb4 is wrong, neither can the £10 computer but that's not sold as good...

edit it can't see the bishops under threat after 20 min of thinking! despite seeing g2-g4

The Traxler! I wouldn't say its simple, infact so complex I've never played it, but lots of fireworks! 🙂 Notes in the game are by Karel Traxler. My counter against white is the fritz attack posted earlier.

Any wins in this? or any more simple tactical ideas that don't involve a queen sac and 10 move king hunt 🙂 ??

I made up this line and have won with it a few times

9 ...Bh3 is a trick , computer says just take it, though there's tactics if you do, but I mostly get 10 f3 as a reply and that's a forced mate.

This is a similar trap to the one in the c3 Sicilian but as black from a Ruy Lopez. Probably in this thread already somewhere ...

The newfangled ARB system, black to play and win in 125 moves, answers on a post card 😛

If only 🙁

This nearly happened in one of my games,

They played 10...Nf6 instead 🙁 Tricky position the knights are threatening all sorts 9...Bb7 is forced I think or...

Game 10296477

I nearly lost after 10...Nf6 , there was an opening called the Sicilian Vespers that was used once but found to be lost in its first tournament.
