OH NOES PIN PARANOIA!
but seriously, so many people are paranoid by doubled pawns...whether or not the pin actually does anything useful is dependent on the position.
eg. in many variations of the King's Gambit Accepted, the move Bg4 is very weak for black. The pin on the Knight does nothing (as white will likely play d4, but it can be backed with c3 in many cases) and Bxf3 is followed by Qxf3 when black has a flurry on his f4 pawn (and king) after O-O and d4
Originally posted by anthiasQueen d3 usually works well, protects the knight and also threatens mate chances on h7 with knight G5, only thing you need to watch is blacks knight coming to b4.
This pin annoys me to no end. Not ony I can't move my knight, I also can't move my queen because Bxf3 gxf3 completely ruins my kingside. An early h3 to meet this loses an important developing tempo. What to do?
just to show you how must fun it can be to play against the bishop g4 pin, lets take the Philidor defence:
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 d6 ( solid but passive, a few strong GM's use it)
3. d4 Bg4? ( quoting Kasparov: "Back in the day old masters used to play this, now every schoolboy knows it is wrong.."😉
4. dxe5 Bxf3 ( what else?) 5.Qxf3! Nf6 6. Qb3!! and white is winning due to the double attack on f7 and b6,
hope this helps to motivate you!!
