Originally posted by TyrannosauruschexI think it's a great idea and I volunteer to be one of the apprentices. I started to play this game this year and I'm already a 1400 player. But don't judge by my last defeat... I was drunk when I played 24.Nb5... π
I have a great challenge to any of the stronger (preferably 2000+ strength) players on the site, an interesting form of competition.
I propose that we each take a player between 1400-1600 and coach them until new year, trying to get their playing strength to about 1700-1800 in that time.
After this, the apprentices will play against each other ...[text shortened]... see how many other players were up for this challenge before committing to the training myself.
EDIT: I think I should not have told that... anyway... I'm a good student
A similar idea was tried years ago with a mentor/mentee thread. Strong players were matched up with hopeful students. I'm not sure how well it went as the mentor who was assigned to me (skeeter) never even replied to me once I was told that she would be my mentor. I hope this endeavor works out better for those interested.
Originally posted by TyrannosauruschexI would relish an opportunity to be coached. I started playing this last March, have read a few books, played almost 400 games, and am eager to learn...π

I would be willing to Coach Joey...and I have a potential student who is 1400 on one of my clans...If my rating is good enough, and my chess knowledge thorough enough I would appreciate the challenge. I have given advice to this potential student before and it turned his rating from a consistent 1200 to a consistent 1400 and I think if I had sometime with him, maybe a month or so, I could get him up to 16-1700...with a lot of work of course...
