Busting that Capablanca -Marshall myth.

(He;s a lying rat he is using it to show a tirap he caught someone in...The Duck)

Keep off the forum Duck, you are barred.

A nice Marshall wrap up using his famous gambit before playing Capablanca.

Capablanca and Marshall cigarette cards.

There have been 421 stalemates on RHP this year.
Most should been checkmates. See the Hall of Doom

I think lbthree was lucky! A piece up in the final position but is there really a white win after 1...Nxe6 2. Bxe6+ Kg7?

Hi Ragwort,

You are right!

I missed my backward Knight move 24..Nxe6 and quickly only looked
at other Knight moves. Gave up and onto the next game.

I think Black is maybe better.. A future Blog bit. I'm in the RHP Hall of Doom!

I resigned on the 8th August the same day I played another mistake
I could not believe I made.

As Black v mihai52 I played 18...Rb6 and resigned after White's next move.Game 11727615

I do recall thinking, how did I miss that!

So much for Check all Checks! 🙂

What was I doing on August 8th. that made mego chess blind.
(a Monday...I hate Mondays. Maybe stop moving at work on a Monday.)

A lot of it very sadly true.

Hi greenpawn, I was looking at the stalemate after the capture and promotion to queen from this position:

1. gxf8 = Q is stalemate and you give the alternative 1. g8 = Q Kxg8 2. Kg6 Kh8 3. Rxf8#

But any capture with underpromotion also does it, the rook is simplest:

The bishop is also straightforward:

White has to do a little more work with the knight:

Hi Deep Thought,

Yes anything works except taking the Bishop = Queen.

A good blunder!

I had some fun working them out though, especially the knight one. Thanks for the blog, they're always good.

Hi Deep Thought,

The Knight Promotion one can be done quicker.
White does not need the Knight. 2.Nd7 getting it out
of the way and it is a standard K&R Mate.

2...Kh7 3.Rb8 and mate next move.
2...Kh5 3.Ra4 and mate next move.

Hi meterman– 19. Qxb6 cxb6 20. Nd6+ forks the Black king and queen. Black loses the exchange.
