I have lost five games in a row. What is the best way to improve my chess playing skills?
2. Read a chess book.
3. Play some weaker opposition, occasionally stronger.
4. Swings and roundabouts... you'll soon have a winning streak.
The biggest thing for me is being careful and not blitzing. I'm still not very good at doing it every move, but when I do it I am able to play a lot stronger. Even blitzing ONE MOVE wrecks my game though.
In my game vs you (which is still in progress and you very well could win), I think that you got a superior position, but just made a blitz move taking my bishop and hanging your queen. I feel like if more time was spent on that move I would be a in a terribly lost position now. (this game is in progress so please no one look it up and comment on it).

Game 4466097
Initially I played extremely carefully, checking databases, analyzing variations several times, but the sloppiness of that last capture will sting for a while.
I personally like to blitz, but there is a large difference between good and bad blitz days. One thing I highly recommend is that you move any games you really care about (i.e. all games in this tournament Tournament 1933) to a separate folder which you only move in once a day with access to a database when you're not feeling rushed.
Ahh yes I forgot the reason I posted in this thread was to suggest taking 1-3 days off. It really helps refocus me after 2 months of chess.

I went 20+ OTB games without winning. I didn't lose them all fortunately but it started to feel like I was never ever going to win a game again. I did in the end of course and I certainly learned that starting a game with a negative frame of mind is as good as starting a piece down.
Ultimately chess is only a game. Treating it like it actually matters (as I am prone to do) is unlikely to help the quality of your play.
Best of luck.

OK, I understand all the advice is a good thing. But I thought someone would have mentioned it by now: 5 losses in a row is a slump from hell? Pftttt.....
10, maybe. 15 definitely. But not 5. 😀
