Today, in Rd. 9 of the Zurich Grand Prix event Jakavenko was 5 pawns up on Gelfand, but allowed a stalemate when Gelfand sacrificed his last 2 pieces. This was one of 2 stalemates in the Rd. as Caruana played on with K+P vs K vs. Karjakin who had the opposition. I wonder if Karjakin was insulted that Caruana assumed he didn't know how to draw such a position!

It's a good one alright. More ammo v the you must resign if you
are lost brigade. Nobody is won or lost till the game is over.

Not a swindle but a snatched opportunity from Gallagher's 365 which I
am daily working my though using it as my bus to and from work material.
(actually during work as well but I never said that.)

G. Sandner - T. Mueller, Germany 2000

Black could and should have played 1...Ne1 (threat 2...Nf3+)
Instead they played 1....Re1 which looks good but......

For a clue I offer you the end of:

Gelfand is now my new hero.
