HI, i've started a yahoo group for people who are intrested in learning more about keping in shape mentaly and physicaly, so they can play better OTB chess. This includes using vitamins, supplements, caffiene, etc.
There are many ways to improve as well, you can also imput any ways you found to improve, i/e books, software, lessons. Thanks

There are no proven "supplements" that improve your chess ability, its all mental, if you think that those "supplements" will help your OTB play, then i think you will do better because you think that they will make you better.

As far as caffine goes, thats totally false, caffine in no way will improve your chess ability, if anything it will harm it.

Ok, then maybe joining the group and discussing this is an option.
Im intrested in hearing from other people on what they use that works.
If vitamins, etc didnt help, then discuss this.
I find a shot of caffeine does help me get alert for a short time. This is great when im getting beat in blitz, and i grap a shot of tea, and start winning again, but get tired shortly after. (bad adreanals?)
Thanks for your imput.

Now your talking about caffine waking you up, that in no way has a *direct* affect on your chess ability.

Im not saying supplements will increase your chess skills.
Studying and playing will.
Im talking about keeping your brain sharp. so you can concentrate better at the board.

Drink lots of water.
That will boost your metabolism and mental stamina for a lot longer then caffeine.

Vitamins and exercise will also boost your metablolism therefore giving you more mental stamina as well.

All these hints help to enable your ability to utilize the chess skills that you posses, yet somehow are not always able to use fully.

Intresting, i remeber that article. Speaking of...I took 260 mg of DMAE and some legal "speed" today, some kind of chinese herbs that gives you endurence and mental sharpness, and played in an OTB tourney at the club. Lost all 3 games i played.
Actualy, i felt like i had good concentration, and energy. I had enough brainpower to realize i suck..
But really, i did see where i was weak in, and where i need improvement.
The supplements didnt help my skils anay, but i felt like i was into the games more then without them.
I did play stronger players, as it was a strong tourney, so i can really tell if i was playing better or not.

Water is a good idea, apparently you need 2 litres a day. On the other hand there is no evidence whatsoever that vitamin supplements do anything other than harm.

The only vitamins i think of that will harm you, are the ones made in labs. The ones made from all natural ingredients, are better for you.
What does harm people are drugs like prozac, zoloft, and just about all pharmacutical drugs. These are killers.
Supplements are for when you need a little boost, or are lacking in some mineral or nutrient.
The best diet of course, is organic. Lots of raw foods as well.
If your healthy, and you study chess the right way, and practice, i think you can acheive a lot.

What's odd is I eat fattening food, smoke plenty of cigarettes and don't exercise at all... and Grandmouster? You're still going down! Game 1683218 Even if your rating does drop to 700 and I only get 4 points for it. LOL

Ah, that games still going on huh. I was trying to find it before to see what happens.

As for the vitamins and stuff. I'm not sure how much they are $ but why not spend that money on a chess teacher ?

I drink pop before tourneys now days since everyone esle drinks coffee or tea. That bitter taste of pop makes me angry and play better. HAHA just joking. I don't know I just drink it because i think it helps a bit?? And then lots of water.

Well The vitamins and 100 press ups a day will have other advantages then just improving your rating a point. A chess teacher would only improve your chess.
