Im just curious how many people are using outside refrences to play the opening. This seems alot like cheating. What are your thoughts?

I do, virtually everyone does.

It's not against the rules, and therefore not cheating.

why bother playing a game if you dont even think about the moves? this makes very little sense to me.

Wow - it's like 8-10 moves, man. Get over it.

It's either use them, or be stuck at 1300-1400, because virtually everyone at MY level (notice I'm not a 1200 like you) uses them, so if I don't I'll have a distinct disadvantage.

Even if they made it a rule, it would be impossible to enforce.

I suggest you invest in an opening database.

So youre saying that you would be at my level if the option to use databases were removed?

Some games go out of book way earlier than move 8😉

so much for the ignore!! databases sometimes go very deep. you could still be in the "book" well into middlegame. if opening books and database only covered 8 moves nobody would need them (except you) because the variations would be easily remembered.

No, I'd probably be 50-75 points lower than now.

wayne, cmsmaster would be at you level if he played stronger oppenents. consistantly playing people 300 points lower rated will slowly improve your rating. this combined with all the latest opening material, anyone can achieve cmsmasters rating.

Game 2453602 - I have two more in progress against this opponenet - no comments as it's in progress

Game 2929024 - I won all three of my games against him - his rating's slipped a bit lately.

Game 2277433

Also take note that my rating's climbed quite quickly - most of the people I played were at my rating when the games started, can I help it that I'm so damn good? Nah....
