Being returned in active OTB chess two weeks after my previous Weekend tournament (see Thread 108725 ) I`m playing in similar Weekend tournament again. To compare with previous time this tournament has less competitors (only 15 🙁 ) and without myself there are only 2 real pretenders for 1st place.

In 1st round I played with weak Master candidate - old lady which best days are clearly in past. In 13th move she blundered a piece. I did not give all moves, as its not too interesting to see how player without piece is playing almost until being mated. Ratings given in ELO section are national ratings.

Similar story is in 2nd round - I was paired with young boy who had the lowest rating and he got lost position very fast. And then he did not resign so I had to mate him.😕 Also here I`ll give only first moves until he gets lost position.

In 3rd round I played against one of the real candidates for 1st place old FM against which I drew in previous Weekend tournament. This time our battle was much more exiting - after 30 moves I got into time trouble and then my opponent sacrificed a pawn for initiative. Being in time trouble I did not defend the best way but my opponent made typical mistake - he had enough time to think a little, but he wanted to exploit my time trouble and also started to play faster and missed few opportunities to get serious advantage and made decisive mistake exchanging queens and I won! Also there is no full notation as my last 20-25 moves were made with less than 2 minutes on clock.

In 4th round I met second pretender to 1st place - the same Master candidate which escaped from me in previous Weekend tournament when in mutual time trouble I could not win obviously winning endgame. This time he did not escape. I got no problems in opening and my opponent could not find good plan - after 16-17 moves he got into unpleasant position, after 18th move he got into serious time trouble in which he made his decisive mistake in 22nd move (better was 22.c4! instead of 22.Rhf1?). So far it`s my best game in this tournament. After 4 rounds (last 3 rounds will be tomorrow) with 4/4 I`m one point ahead my nearest followers and have good chances to take 1st place with clear 100% result as I have already played with the strongest competitors and should not have problems to overplay others.

No. These Weekend tournaments are never Elo rated. If I would played only in Elo rated tournaments I could play at maximum 1-2 times per year 😛

P.S. If you are interested to know ELO of my opponents then first 2 probably have no ELO, but second 2 have elo 2200+

In 5th round I played my worst game in this tournament - I got winning position in opening, then missed several opportunities to finish my opponent faster and finally make stupid blunder after which I had to save myself with perpetual check.

Last 2 rounds were not too interesting - my opponents got in bad positions very fast.

You may laugh but I`m not satisfied as after 4rd rounds when I won both of my main competitors I hoped for 100% result. And if I would not miss all my opportunities to win in 5th round.... 🙁

maybe you should just try to identify your good form and when you have moments like this to travel for some ELO rated tournaments(even if you have to go to different country)...in this way I think you could get the FM in 1-2 years...
(this in case you care about the titles)

Maybe. I would not say that I care for title too much but it would be interesting to play some ELO tournaments abroad.
