So I was thinking about this and wondering what people have as their goals, surely it helps you keep motivated.
My goal is to reach 1800 rating at the end of this year, it's a big one but I know I can do it.
(Started playing 20th December 2006, current rating: 1400)
Also I want to beat all the chess players at my school and prove that their "10 year experiance" doesn't make them better than me.
I love the competition chess provides, the rating system spices that up too, the goals keep me motivated.
So what are your goals?
Long term to become a 2000+ USCF OTB and Corr player. I am currently at 1800 in corr and 1600 in OTB so I set intermediate goals
i.e.
-By the end of the year, have kept my RHP rating above 1700 for 3 consecutive months (getting it there and quitting doesn't count)
-Make the second round of the 2007 Iowa CC Championship (I've currently scored one draw and have two wins on the way if I don't screw them up)
-Play three OTB tournaments sufficiently well that my OTB rating goes up after each of them.
And to reach those goals, I spend 15 minutes per day doing tactics and twice a week I review and annotate a master game.
long term at least 1800 2000 is my ultimate and i'll see where if i ever get there. short term undertstand c4 openings better and ruy lopez. word of advice dont worry about your rating and only worry about what your doing wrong in games go back study what u did wrong get a book if you need and you'll be shocked how fast you raise.
