I want to know why you continue playing chess?

I spend an average of 2 hours each day on it, playing and studying. I know a lot of you spend just as much time or more on chess.

Why do you spend so much time on it? What will chess do for you? What has chess done for you so far?

What haven't I done for chess. I read chess books, watch chess dvd's, play chess, talk about chess, help others with chess, what more can I do?

Now your turn, what has chess done for you?

I don't like games. at all. I don't play boardgames, I don't play computer games (although I'm interested in them, just not in playing them) -I think I'm interested in chess because it's so incredibly hard. you have to do ridiculous amounts of work to get better, and still there's always much room for improvement. it's like a mountain of infinite height. you climb and climb and climb, think you see the 'top', get there, only to find out there's another mountain ahead, only ten times higher.

If playing chess has taught me one thing, it is that we always pay for our mistakes...........

Chess has robbed me of quality family time. Chess has stolen time that I could have invested in viable business pursuits. Chess has cost me money in books, boards, sets and software. Chess has played with my mind, caused nightmares, haunted almost all my waking hours.

My name is Gatecrasher, and I'm a chessoholic.

On the plus side it has tended to help me cut down drinking a bit, given me an interest in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep, given me a little bit of pride in playing for my town BUT on the downside it has caused arguements (over time) with my gf, cost me real money by playing chess instead of pursuing business opportunities, and teases me by letting me think I am getting somewhere then brings me crashing down to earth with a pathetic blunder. My name is Steve Todd and I too am a chessaholic

Chess has granted to me countless hours of relaxation while playing one of my pals.

IT is my regular Friday evening excercise and we celebrate it.

I drive to my best pal. We get the dog out, he sh@gs his girlfriend into sweet dreams. Then Bach is turned on the chimney is lit and the whiskey is pulled out. We set the pieces and play on and on just drinking, playing, listening, smoking (cigarettes or pipeweed) and relaxing.

There are only few things you do as a hobby which do not give you stress (women, party, orgy´s, demonstrations, fights and political discussions all start the ongoing paralysis of the human body).

AAAAAAAAH That´´s chess
