"What is man, that thou art mindful of him?"

What is chess that it consumes us? A painting to paint? A poem to write? An eternal question begging answer? A riddle wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma? A puzzle to be solved?

sigh, Capablanca was a great chess player but he wasn't a philosopher.

If I want to read GP's blog or join in an engine witchhunt I go to the Chess Forum. If I want to read GB's drivel I go to the General Forum. Don't get me wrong I enjoy both but they must remain in their rightful place otherwise global chaos will follow. This isn't the first time you've got GP and GB confused. Early signs of dementure.

    It's a game. A wonderful game.

It has the power to make as in the Kubbel study in Thread 147307
stare in awe at the beauty it can create with just a few pieces.

It also has the power to have us laughing like loons at the carry on in
Thread 147260 where onel lad sends his analysis to his opponent
by mistake and another lad promotes a pawn to an enemy Queen.
(the other guy cannot believe his luck and starts moving it....)

No other game has this hold on us. It's infinite, we don't know what is coming next.
We marvel at the games of Capablanca, Karpov, Fischer....
Yet the very same pieces in the hands of a couple of under 1400 players also
has the means to entertain us.

The first 12 moves of Jlrdada - w1ll1amchess RHP 2008
is a classic example. These two are real chess players.
I've played over 1,000's of brilliant games of chess and I still laugh till it
hurts at the 'Music Box' by Laurel & Hardy.

The first 12 moves of this one game has me mixing both the pleasure
I get from chess and from laughing at chaos.
Even now It still has me giggling like a nutcase.
I really do feel sorry for anyone that does not know the game of chess.

Yes I see your logic now. Inclusion of the word chess makes this appropriate for the Chess forum. I look forward to you including the word general in every post you make in the General forum.

I'm fascinated by chess because 1. There as many possible positions in the game as half the atoms in the universe. 2. Every game is an opportunity to take assessment of yourself, to learn your strengths, you're weaknesses, and improve upon yourself. 3. The friendships I've made with fellow players.

Just because inclusion of a word means that it pertains to a certain subject doesn't mean that it's exclusion means it doesn't. Logic 101

Isn't it obvious to you that the only purpose of the thread's lead in OT Biblical Quote is to lend a note of wonder to the series of chess probes which follow? Probes intended to elicit thoughtful replies to an open ended question, to which a single definitive answer is virtually impossible?

You've, uncharacteristically, been on me arse in the general forum in recent weeks for reasons known only to you. Give it a rest, thaughbaer. You're among friends here. Nobody's out to threaten or hurt you. Let's continue any face to face air cleaning you deem necessary in the private venue of personal messages, so as not to further pollute this already active and interesting thread. Thank you.
