After winning this one I thought that maybe there was hope for me. There isn't, but it was a nice thought. I liked how I was able to predict that he would play g5-g4 eventually and let me put my knight on f5 via h4.
My opponent blundered, but I was still satisfied with my play, and the fact that I felt I knew what to do.

Not a perfect game by any means but proper knife-edge stuff. Allowing 21. Bxa7 and the resulting queen side attack was a pure oversight but it made for a right ding-dong battle.
I've never thought so hard during a game since.

Ok I think I know why my above mentioned game wouldn't post... I had clicked 'publish annotations' and for some reason it wont let me copy-paste the PGN from there.
...To be honest i don't even know what I accomplished by publishing them.
Anyhoo this is a different game, with annotations, and because I never pressed the publish annotations button, it is letting me do it this time.
The Philidor's defense was played, and it was a pretty looking win for me, albeit made easy due to poor moves.
p.s. my apologies for mentioning 2 games... I would say this one is my best, purely due to the nice looking mate... but in terms of quality, the other game may be better

...and I couldn't recapture with rook, cos that would bring Re1 mate! 😲 so g3 was a safety precaution in case he decided to take my Knight 🙂
