Originally posted by 7ate9Your notation is incorrect, nothing is on d4 so the knight can't take anything there. BTW: If you ask me 1.e4 e5 2.f4 is the way to go. But if you must play 2.Nf3 Nc6 then 3.Bb5 entering the Ruy Lopez is the way to go.
I find myself playing this opening as white, where I end up at the same spot...
1) e4 .. e5
2) Ngf3 .. Ngc6
3) Ngxd4 .. ngxd4
4) Qxd4 .. whatever
I hate putting my Queen back to it's starting point, but every other spot seems to block up my development & the queen is also vulnerable. Is it best to go back?
Originally posted by Sicilian SmaugOh ok, yeah, the Scotch is interesting but I'll stick with my KG. How's the push for 2000 and less games thing going for you?
I used to play it and have had a lesson it in the past. I havn't replaced the Ruy with it exclusively, but play both now, if things go well I intend to play the Scotch exclusively, it has slightly more of a suprise factor than the Ruy.
