It seems like every time I get my rating really close to 1500, I lose a few games in a row and it drops back under 1400. Then when it's about to drop under 1300, I win a few games in a row and it gets close to 1500, and so on. I don't know if it's because I'm playing too fast, or I'm playing too many games, or something else. Can anyone help me? Please? ๐Ÿ˜ณ

its chess there is no steady rate when your at that level. you dont really get a real steady rating until you hit 1500 where you progress less and less and the higher up the longer it takes to get to the next level.

I've only cracked 1500 twice since I've been here. That's what I'm trying to do right now. ๐Ÿ˜ž

same here with 1700. be patient in your games take your time. if your moving too fast because your so close to 1500 then sit on your hands while you think of a move so you dont get mouse happy and click a submit move your going to regret. it takes time and patience is the key sometimes. best of luck ;-)

You've peaked. Your chess career is over. Be glad it's when you're close to 1500 and not like mine which peaked at "holy crap, I'm a chess retard!"

Seriously though, even with my low rating, if there is something I know about this game is that you progress to a ceiling, bounce against that for a while and then break through. You're doing good, I wish I could say the same.

I'm pretty stable. I don't have big ups and downs, just stable improvement. none of that rollercoaster for me, thank-you-very-much.

I believe it's mostly because I can (mostly) resist playing tired, drunk or otherwise exhausted.

You'll do it. -.- Maybe do something different? (This could mean anything, lol)

WARNING: This is advice coming from someone under 1200.
Although I think i'm stronger. =.= Sometimes.

When I first started playing here, I moved too fast and didn't analyze much. After a few stupid losses, I decided to slow down and think carefully about my games. The analysis board is my friend.

Hang in there Dutch! Just think a little longer before you move.

I say sod it all. Move too fast. It's more fun that way.

Don't think about it too much as having to break through a rating ceiling. Look at it that if you want to be a '1500 player' then you want to try to be beating 1500 rated players more often than not. Go through your games with the opponents who are rated higher than you and try to spot where you're going wrong. Sure you can get to 1500 by beating lower rated players but you'll only end up dropping back down again and beating 10 people rated lower doesn't feel as good as beating one person who's better than you.

A persons chess ability is always measured against the quality of the opposition.
