Similar to What’s Your Morphy Number? You played someone (could have been a simul) who played someone who played someone .... who played Fischer.

Example: my Fischer Number is 3: Tarjan (simul) > Gligoric > Fischer.

Fischer played a well-publicized simul tour in 1964, so someone here must be 'young' enough to have a Fischer Number of 1 !

OMG - my Fischer number is 3 then - a player as weak as me! Milan Grcic (one of my regular opponents) > Gligoric > Fischer

Thanks for the replies. I expected that quite a few here would have FN 2. Kudos!

Wow, Bisguier! Simul or 1-to-1?

That one was a simul (sigh). I did win however.

What's more, anyone who can trace his line to Gligoric links to every world's champion prior to Fischer. Gligoric's career spanned generations: he played Spassky, Petrosian, Smyslov, Botvinnik, Tal, and Euwe; early in his career he played Milan Vidmar, Bogo, and Tartakower, and through them the link goes back to Alekhine, Capablanca, Lasker, and Steinitz.
