I am still reeling from my having to resign in this game last night.
Game 2390232

Did I make a huge error at some point?
Where did it all go to worms?

Any thoughts, chaps?

Cheers,

I'll say you waited until move 26 to launch something that looks like an attack, when you had an opportunity to cause trouble on 8b.Qc7, and even before that a lot of useless moves. Seems that you didnt have any plan, and just moving safely waiting for your oponent blunder. Which gave the oponent a lot of time to develop an attack.

I'll say be more agressive and have a plan - no matter how crazy it is.

The first move of Black's that I really didn't like was 17......Qd4. I would have played 17.....e5 to give your bishop greater scope.

19...c5 didn't look too bad at the time, but in retrospect it may have removed any chances you had for pawn breaks on the queenside. I realise that it let you have an impressive looking bishop on b7, but once White played f3 it wasn't really doing anything.

26.Bc2 was a nice move and I think Black was struggling after that. Once White managed to get his rook on d6 Black was in serious trouble.

Thanks a lot, Fat Lady. I agree that 17. ...Qd4 was really the first in a series of questionable moves. Thank you for taking the time to analyse for me.

Thanks, too, to Jee for your excellent, straightforward advice. This has always been a problem with my black games; I tend to wait for white to screw up (usually happens at some point!!) and then mete out a condign punishment, rather than formulating a decent combination.

Cheers,

Mathurine 🙂
