I said e8 not d8. Black bishop cannot move to c6 because taken by white pawn on d7. The position is not playable for black.

Ah yes I see it now after Bg2 it all depends on how white advances the pawns to get a queen

I had edited my fen almost instantly, and you are quoting a fen with a Queen on e8 (look)

You have a pawn killing backwards?

I see there is more to this puzzle than meets the eye, eh?

Isn't the pawn on a enough? I'm not seeing a killer stroke for black from here.

    Looks like triple underpromotion: 1.d8N Be8 [1...Bxc2 2.e8R! and wins (but not 2.e8Q Be4+ 3.Qxe4 stalemate)] 2. a6 [2.Bd3? Bg6! and Black wins] 2...Bg6 3.e8R! Bxe8 4. a7 Bg6! 5. a8B!! and wins.

Why can't black just counter though with Bb3 ? If White promotes pawn to Q, its still mate.

edit: nvm - missed the pawn on c2
