Hi Diet,
chess is an activity right? Whether played over the internet or OTB - what's 'sad' about it?

Hi Rubberjaw,

if chess just meets a need to 'intellectually dominate another', how do you explain the varied reactions to the game. Do you think Go players feel the same?
i dont...
i was just meaning to explain my reaction to and impression of the game of chess...
thanks for the input anyway slopsimus

Hi Musscat,
if you think chess is about fathers/kings and mothers/queens and freuds/frauds, then fair enough..

I think, like most psychiatrists, Fine was as goofy as his patients. I think chess is a game, no more, no less.

Do you think chess is a game like snakes and ladders? backgammon? Bingo? Hide and Seek? Which one and why?

Are you a psychiatrist or something? People may be "addicted" to it and may make a living playing it, like basketball or bowling, but it's still just a game.

i agree with the others earlier that it meets a need to intellectually dominate someone else...
nothing satisfies me more than seeing the expression on my opponent's face when he stalemates while up a queen and a rook...
even if it is a draw, in those situations, i feel as though i have won...
Funny, stalemate wonders me the most. The stalemated king is going to have his head chopped off, but still is walking away as a winner with half the lute!
Amazing.....
