by my informal count, Roman now has 24 (count 'em) DvD's out. No one else even comes close. I ordered a couple of tapes of his a few years back and found they had zero effect on my chess. In fact, I suspect my feeble level of skill actually went down after watching the videos and listening to his innumerable "And Vite is already lozt." He looks on the screen like a latter-day Eastern European hippie, getting a little long in the tooth. Apparently Roman has ported over all his videos into DVD's and added even more. He has cornered the DVD market. There are such great possibilities with the format, I don't know why more people haven't started taking advantage. Actually, Chessbase has started but you have to play it through their software on the computer. I like to watch these things from the comfort of my living room couch, not peering into a computer monitor. Wouldn't it be great if someone did, say, Morphy's Life combined with many of his important games in the sort of format A&E does with biographies on television, with interviews with experts, etc? Or how about a Fischer bio, with recorded interviews etc.? Maybe the money isn't there for any production values to be added, just a talking head with a chessboard in front of a backdrop.
I liked his videos, they were hysterical. I like making fun of his accent.
I spent over $100 for them, (bundled with seriwans DVD.) I sold the Romans on ebay for about $30. (yuk)
Maybe if you watched them about 3-4 times, you might learn something.
If your going to spend money for something like that, buy software you can interact with.
Personaly i like reading a chess book, even if i dont learn something right away, its entertaining.
