I remember some Buddhist story describing Man as having nine doors - namely the ears, eyes, nostrils, arse, dick and mouth. Maybe the answer to this riddle is that when a baby is in the womb all of its 'doors' are closed, then when the door to the womb opens and the baby is born, all its doors open. Or something like that.

At death maybe. And the one door open could be the door of a coffin or crematorium, or the door of heaven for the religious.
