What is the maximum number of bishops you can put on a chess board before one of them is able to take another bishop?

With the 'play from set piece' option...if you create two pyramids and count properly, you shall see that there can be 32! Whit can attack white and black can attack black...just not white vs. black!

I can get 14. That's 8 along the bottom, and 6 along the top except the corners. I think that covers all the diagonals. Any better suggestions?

Try to put 6 at the bottom and 4 on the top...and so on making a pyramide!

    White: Bishops from a1 till h1, b2-g2, c3-f3, d4-e4

    Black: b8-g8, c7-f7, d6-e6!

14 would be true if white couldn't attack white...the riddle was the white just couldn't attack black!

How many queens could be placed this way, then? (So that no queen can attack any other (no matter what color))
