    you could fool them with qg8 hope they bring the rook over then its checkmate.

    Yes, but normally chess problems aren't solved hoping that the opponent woud do a suboptimal move. I think this one was expecting best play from boh sides.

    not the best play from both sides. just the fact that black has no other options except to run from the checks and make the game last as long as possible.
