How about, given that a=b=1,
a^2 = a*b
a^2 - b^2 = a*b - b^2 -subtract b^2 from both sides
(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b) -factor
a+b = b -divide by a-b
So substituting in our original assumption, we have that 2=1. Multiply both sides by 'chair' to get
2*chair = chair
Now subtract 'chair' from both sides to get
chair = 0
so since 0 not= 1, chair not= 1 qed.
