If it said, "will certainly die": he is travelling into the gravity field of a black hole. Though if you get filosophical, he will ALMOST certainly die, because noone has been there before.

Perhaps the field is the display screen on a heart monitor. When there is no heartbeat, the line centers. A person may still be revived, hence he doesn't certainly die at this point. I know it may be a stretch, but it just a guess.

Hmmmm.... Its an astroid field, and he has no Oxygen...

or its a computer science field, and he isn't any good at programing.

or the man is really a fish, and he has no Oxygen,

or the feild is a seaweed feild, and he has no Oxygen, Wow, this Oxygen thing is real important.

Maybe its a feild of Jelly fish, or a feild of 20' hungry pythons, or a field of Hungry anything with teeth.

Hmm.. thats what it must be. a magnetic feild, and he has a pace maker.

Rgoudie is correct. He is plumeting from the sky towards the centre of a field with no parachute and hence he will almost certainly die. some have survived but most don't. 😀

Its a field of competitors in a car race. He needs to finish higher than middle to win the tourmament but after bad preliminary lap times he started last on the grid. He is rapidly overtaking cars but his arch rival has arranged for him to be shot if he gets to the middle of the field.
