Hunting, farming, and prostitution are the most obvious nominees.

Prostitution always wins because at the times when we were beginning to hunt and farm they were not done for profit. Doing something for profit is what makes something a profession.

That is not a guess, that is a fact.

Eventually Grampy Bobby will reveal the answer to his loaded question by giving an attempt at a falsely "deep" answer of what he thinks the oldest profession is in his idealistic bubble and everyone will be disappointed with themselves for participating in yet another utterly pointless GB thread.

Hooray for progress.

soldiers, scouts, trackers/hunters must have been tha most 'valuable' men in the tribe...

"world's oldest profession?"... Progress Report (27 March '10)

Ice Cold: scavenger, forum moderator, mother, louse picker, helper (of old ladies), grave digger,
organ donor, medicine, village idiot, hunter and gatherer, douchebag, palynka, poo shoveller,
taxonomist, greengrocer, prostitution, judge, coquette, farming, dinosaur wrangler, ie designer.

Lukewarm: troll, explaining, henchman, tax collector, moocher, companion.

Warmer: creator, father (of what?), storyteller, zoo keeper, over-explaining, first dictionary author,
grampy bobby (if gb = bs), soldier (enemy), politician, liar, teacher (false), gardner.

Red Hot: Cain/Abel, 'Murderer' (in overt deed/covert thought) = World's Second Oldest Profession.

Note: One down, 'Murderer' (Second Oldest Profession)... Third Oldest and Oldest still to go.

Devout Agnostic.

Then it's the toolmaker. Then the firemaker. Blacksmith next, who needed to harden the iron with fire.
