How do you make him do that? If he is a liar he will probably lead you to certain doom!

1. Hold a gun to his head.
2. Tie your hand to his.
3. Tell him to go to the door for heaven.
4. Follow him in.

He is going to the same place as you.

Is there actually an elegant way of doing this?

There is a way to ask him to do something, if you ask it right, whether he is a liar or not he has to give away the door to you. No force is required.

Sorry I thought you were kidding for the first one. Will have to think about it.

Let's make it a little bit harder:

You have 1 question, there are one billion doors, 1 door only leads to heaven, there is 1 true/false guy who you can make one statement to, he understands you, but he will answer in a language you don't understand at all.
What is "1 true/false guy"? Would you explain?

There is one guy you can talk to, who either tells the truth or lies, you don't know which.

Is it something like:

If I were to ask your brother which isn't the door to heaven, which one would
he point to?

Getting closer, but your question doesn't work. If the guy tells the truth then he points to one of the 999,999 not-heaven doors, so then which is the heaven door?

Yes, I was thinking it would go like that. There are a few ways to phrase it.

Are you sure (I'm not....)?

Let me rephase it:

If I were to ask your brother to point to a door that doesn't lead to heaven,
where would he point?

If I ask the truth-teller, he would answer honestly about his brother's lie, which
is the same as asking him to lie. So if I ask 'which door isn't the door to
heaven' and he has to lie, he can only point to the door which leads to heaven.

If I ask the liar, he would answer dishonestly about where his brother would
point (which would be a 'hell door'😉. This means he would only point to the
heaven door.

No?

I don't think there is a brother in Xanthos' version. He said there was one guy who always or never lies; there was nothing about a second guy who always does the opposite.

Ah - so by "Brother" you mean "Someone opposite to yourself"? That would indeed work. Congratulations!

I was thinking of "Please point to a door that you could have pointed to yesterday if I had come along and asked you to point to a door that led to heaven".

Tiger, I don't think your answer works. Can you explain further?
