The PLA bioplasics mentioned in that link can be made from fermented plant starch such as from corn, cassava, sugarcane, sugar beet pulp, etc.
Unfortunately its widespread application has been hindered by numerous physical and processing shortcomings but hopefully that will eventually change with improvements in the relevant technologies and, if or when it does, that be great because it would amongst other things allow a way to greatly reduce the plastic pollution in the oceans.
