Think of the hundreds of millions, Billions? who have caught Covid, and now we see mental damage, LASTING damage to the brain.
If this is not dumbing down humans, I don't know what is.
@Contenchess
It is thought by historians much the same happened causing the fall of the Roman empire.
It seems they did not know about how toxic lead is. They loved leaded glass for their wine bottles. Problem is after storage, the lead leached into the wine and they thing the whole population or most got lead poisoning and that effects cognitive skills.
@contenchess said... and Fauci and Gates and Greta Thunberg. And birds (but birds aren't real).
#ThanksChina🙄
@sonhouse saidYou do realise that that's a myth, right? It was once posited as a possible cause, but no serious historian any longer believes it was a significant factor at all.

@sonhouse saidOk. Finally I've read the study linked in the article. It provides clear evidence that anxiety and depression are increasing. It does not provide clear evidence that it is because of COVID.

There's no control group.
Anxiety, depression, and stupidity have been on the rise for decades. I think there's a convincing argument in there that COVID has exacerbated existing trends, but to say that it was caused by COVID suggests it is temporary (i.e. will be over in a generation) without addressing the fact that the root causes preceded COVID.
Addressing this problem will take a lot more than blaming COVID.
@wildgrass
There have been underlying symptoms for centuries but with these pandemics hitting every century or so, that has to affect the population psychologically and I think we are in the latest psychological crisis where covid did exacerbate the situation.
I think the cognitive skills of people go up and down following the rise and fall of the crisis of the month and I think the average cognitive level has gone down as a result of all the above.
@wildgrass saidAnxiety,depression,stress,it's all part of the way we live today.

Kids committing suicide because of social media.
Technology, which we are dependent upon to live in the way we are accustomed.
Just one example.When I was a child. if you were cold you threw more coal on the fire.
Now ,if the boiler breaks down you have to wait for someone to come and repair it while you freeze.
All stress.
@venda
Well, that boiler thing, I am the one who does that🙂 AND the plumbing. And the wiring. And the computer. Sigh. I am the only one in our family with tech skills.
2 AM, granddaughter comes in, Grandpa, can you fix this broken widget.
Well maybe not 2 AM but still, I am the go to dude for fixes...
@Shallow-Blue
Well it makes a nice story🙂 I think there was research on leaded glass and the amount of leaching into wine, which I think was the genesis of the theory.
Maybe the Romans realized the problem and figured, well, we might as well drink it while it is fresh......
