The goal was to go mach 1+ but the article doesn't say if he achieved that.

This update says he got to mach 1.24:

That is 834 mph at the altitude he was measured at, at ground level it would be 925 but the speed of sound slows down at higher altitudes, which is 746 mph but at his altitude it would have been 670 mph. Even at ground level it would be considered to be mach 1.1.
