Finding star age gives the orbit!

http://scitechdaily.com/hubble-reveals-link-between-stars-ages-and-their-orbits/

A million stars in a box 120 light years on a side, well globular anyway, puts these stars an average of about 1.5 light years apart. That must be some night sky view for someone on a planet in the middle of that nest of stars?

Globular clusters tend to be metal poor, so life is less likely.
