    I had a zx spectrum +2 (though my first experience of the spectrum was on the older zx...chucky egg!!!)

    Sorry but megadrives is where it's at..."Altered Beast" ftw!

    you can get a handheld unit that plugs into your TV and lets you play Altered Beast. for around $12-$20. my kids have it but it was a gift so i don't know where it came from.

    OMG I can't believe I forgot that. You didn't need the ,1...what did the ,1 do again? And the asterisk? Asterisk was a folder, right, and the 1 was the first program on the list if I remember correctly...

    It is of course just a modern computer with a case that looks like the old commodore 64.

    What I would prefer is a rack of vacuum tubes with a program to do various interesting patterns.
    It could just look busy or thoughtful from time to time, and very rarely display an picture, or letters.

    Sorry, I preferred a proper keyboard (and one where the keys didn't fall out if you held it upside down). I had a BBC 🙂.
