As we age, there is a natural incremental accumulation of harmful mutations in the mitochondrial DNA which incrementally reduces mitochondria function and that causes at least some of the usual unpleasant symptoms of old age.

This research hints that if we could make a gene theory that reverses those harmful mutations in the mitochondrial DNA as we age by restoring that DNA code to its former mutation-free state, we would at least partly reverse the aging process in the human body. I hope that happens in our life time so we can all benefit.
