no.

So the discussion is worthy of the thesis.

Please provide at least some hint why a solar flare should end civilaztion e.g. as opposed to a nuclear war (much more probable).

@Ponderable
Earth does have that pesky magnetic shield which deflects the worse of it. So it is now the 7th and a severe solar storm could maybe kill some sats but EARTH? Or humans? It might have effects on the ozone layer and such, and screw up my ham contacts for sure...

@Lionel-Hutz and others ; The missed point is that modern humans like our erectus forebearers, are going to enter the fossil record as every other vertebrate that has existed. The most likely decimator are viruses, and toxic water, biological warfare, nukes, asteroids-comets, super volcanos ... theres every reason to pray ... but time & chance will have the last dance.
We play w/ fyre in ignorance or rage ... & all bets come due. Chkm8te by chance.

So what happened?

It is now the 22nd.

My prediction is that every single prediction of end times will be wrong. What about "no one knows" don't y'all get?

Didn't hear of a single satellite crashing down to Earth and last I checked, civilization on Earth is still here, haven't seen any mass extinction events not caused by mankind.
This is one Wiki piece about the solar storm:
"No, the 2024 solar storm did not destroy any satellites, but it did cause some issues:
Increased drag:
The solar storm caused the atmosphere to heat up and expand, which increased the density of the thermosphere. This increased drag on satellites, causing some to lose altitude and putting them at risk of collision.
Communication delays:
The storm caused some delays in Starlink satellites communicating with the ground.
Satellites had to maneuver:
Thousands of satellites had to suddenly maneuver to regain their correct altitude.
Solar storms can damage satellites at high altitudes and cause them to sink toward Earth at low altitudes. The orbits of satellites can be unexpectedly changed by solar storms, which can be a problem for companies that have launched thousands of satellites into low Earth orbit."

Funny how we get these revival tent shows claiming the end is coming, please donate to our worthy cause......

Satellites have rockets on them so they can boost to another orbit just in case, right? I guess this would extend their normal lifespan as well.

@Suzianne
Yep, small rockets for sure but you don't need much thrust to just move say a mile out of the way of some incoming.

Well I checked and we seem to still have a civilization. At least for tonite🙂

Yep, we only have maybe a million years left. Better start praying to whatever 'higher power' you love.
You know, it really is funny, people talking about what to do to survive the sun running out of fuel and expanding in size to engulf Earth, in a couple of billion years from now.
Seems a bit arrogant to think humans will be around in even 2 million years much less 2 BILLION years. Time enough for humans to go extinct a hundred times over and maybe octopus types take over as scientific civilization but even they would be gone by the time the sun runs out of fuel.
