If quantum mechanics wasn't freaky enough already

Am I missing something. Doesn't magnetism transmit both information and energy with out transmitting a particle?

Sure, but you have to use energy to transmit information. The transmission side of the equation for the photon afterglow does not use energy. The receive does use energy though.
