One of the illustrations shows rings around the star from bits and pieces of the planet, I wonder if this has been actually imaged or is that just figment of imagination?
So the implication of missing planets here might have been say a Jupiter or Saturn size planet flung from the outer solar system to a similar orbit and it disappeared in a few million years also.
I wonder if there was any kind of evidence in the spectrum of the sun showing excess carbon or iron or such? Probably not but it would be an interesting search.
