I'm not really a physics expert and won't pretend to really understand the physics of this but the gist of this ~13 min video is that subatomic particles called 'anyons' have now been experimentally shown to exist (when before their existence was scientifically uncertain and only highly theoretical) and this video then discusses how understanding and use of these anyons might, at least in theory, lead to the design of some truly useful quantum computers.
It does at least sound promising.
