I suggest giving subscribers and non-subscribers alike free access to avatar pictures. I think it's rather extreme to block that feature to non-subscribers.
even some of the crap chess forums allow non-subs to have avatars of their choice.
Well, then if all this site has to offer to subscribers is a choice of avatars then this site seriously needs to beef up on more features...try Chess.com for example...tons of features for subscribers and the trivial things are free...also, if that is correct then I'm seriously questioning people's intent for throwing away money like that...just for an avatar. Ridiculous. What is it....30 dollars...thats a tank of gas...well, not even a tank but it would last a week. I understand that redhotpawn.com is relatively new and it's still going through some changes but they seriously need to rethink the subscriber features.

I think that this site is very generous to non-paying members. Now, lately, even non-subscribers are permitted to enter a special tournament designed for non-subs, and further, temporarily exceed the 6 game limit.
There has to be a difference between subs and non-subs. No difference doesn't encourage anyone to pay his subwscription fee.
So avatars or no avatars is no important matter. If you think that as a non-sub, then pay the fee and become a full-paying subscriber, and you get your moneys worth in form of an avatar.

You have an avatar picture.
As a subscriber, I get to choose mine.
You pays your money ... etc.

The point is not that non subs should have pictures, nor is it true that pictures are the best feature, but it's fun when you've just subscribed to upload your image and to join a few tourneys. It's exciting, and unfair on non subs to remove the extra pleasure they get when they finally do subscribe.
Originally posted by rbw741RHP really isn't that new, and subs get more features than just avatars. You might want to do a bit of research before starting with the bashing.

Yes, people here are far too defensive of the site's policies. Yes, it would behoove the site to occasionally check around and see what the competition is offering, both for free and with payment. But trust me, you will get nowhere on this issue - this little 50x50 gif image is the main thing that subs have to show that they are 'more exclusive' members than you are, and they won't give it to non-subs without a fight. Yes, it's a bit sad, I know.
