At least you would then know, at a glance, if you've given your opponent long enough extra time before claiming the game.

That is exactly what I have wondered.

I guess it shouldn't be too hard to get it going, good idea. 🙂

Yup, good idea.

I guess that by looking at the time of the last move you could more or less work out how long you've allowed, but even so this would be an improvement

If the time bank was partly used before the last move then you really can not determine when it ended. Please correct me if I am wrong.
