I wish there was a setting to suppress in game messaging. Have the options be "Open" (anybody can message you in game), "Friends Only" and "None". Your setting would be visible to other players, so they wouldn't be able to message you if your setting didn't allow it.
It would probably make sense to have it work symmetrically: If I only allow messages from friends, I can only message to friends.
Sometimes you want a friendly game of chess, sometimes you just want a game of chess.

So what you're saying is: the ignore list has nothing to do with the idea I put forward as a new feature?
You would have to add each person you played to your ignore list as you start the games. Add them to your 'buddy list' to allow them.
Not exactly the same as a mass on/off button which I agree might be useful. 🙂
